Wreford have provided an informative article on topiary for the official BALI journal. Wreford were approached by BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) to provide an overview of the history of the ancient art of cutting hedges, shrubs and trees into specific shapes – whether figurative, geometric or abstract – to reflect the growing popularity of the practice. The article outlines how topiary has been going in and out of fashion for around 2,000 years, and also provides information on how to create specimens and where to find good examples to go and view. The two-page article was published in the Summer 2007 issue of BALI’s Landscape News. An extended version of the article has been added to the ‘Advice and Info Centre’ on Wreford’s Hedging and Topiary website. To view this extended version, please click here.

WORKS BEGIN AT ‘CORPUS CHRISTI
Item dated 08/05/07
Landscape works have commenced at the Corpus Christi Care Home site in Boscombe, Bournemouth. The Centre, a retirement home for Jesuit priests, is being built on behalf of The Trustees for Roman Catholic Purposes. Wreford were appointed by Place Chartered Architects to conduct all soft landscaping works at the site. Wreford will be topsoiling, turfing and planting, along with installing an irrigation system, water feature and a herb garden. Many of the plants were ordered in February, to enable them to be ‘grown on’ and achieve a more striking three to four-month old look when installed on site. The project design, by Place, was inspired by the work of award-winning designer and author Christopher Bradley-Hole.
WEBSITE GETS INDEPENDENT PRAISE
Item dated 30/04/07
One of Wreford’s websites is recommended in a survey feature published in House and Homes Ideas. The feature, entitled 30 Best Flower and Plant Websites, appears in the May issue of the magazine. Amongst the 30 sites, Wreford’s Hedging and Topiary online shop is listed under the tagline “Where big is beautiful.” The entry emphasises Wreford’s diversity (“Selling large and established hedges, trees, shrubs and borders is just one branch (get it?) of a company that offers landscaping, grounds maintenance and Japanese knotweed removal”) and singles out the website’s “useful FAQ pages” for the special attention of its readers.
TREE SECTION ON WEBSITE EXPANDED
Item dated 24/04/07
Wreford have expanded the tree section on their Hedging and Topiary website. Previously, trees were supplied on a ‘price on request’ basis, with products chosen from a list of available species. To assist our clients, trees are now being added to the website in the same format as the hedging plants, shrubs and topiary specimens.
NEW PREMISES OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Item dated 10/04/07
Wreford’s Hedging and Topiary business continues to go from strength to strength. What began as an offshoot of the company just two and a half years ago has quickly become one of its principal success stories. To support the online shop, supplying mature and semi-mature hedging, shrubs, trees and topiary specimens with free delivery across mainland UK, Wreford purchased new premises near Southampton at the beginning of this year. The premises, formally Paulton’s Garden Centre, have been converted into a nursery, stocked with many items available from the website www.hedgingandtopiary.co.uk. Although no longer a garden centre, prospective buyers are welcome to visit the site and take the opportunity to see the products ‘up close’. Wreford Hedging and Topiary’s nursery is situated on Romsey Road, Ower (near Paulton’s Park), off Junction 2 of the M27. The opening hours are 7.30-5.30 Monday-Friday.
